Two more attempts to smuggle tobacco products from Ukraine to Hungary were prevented by servicemen of Chop BG detachment at the Chop (Druzhba) and Salovka railway BCPs.

In particular, this morning at the Salovka BCP, during the inspection of a freight train heading to Epereske station (Hungary), law enforcement officers found six packages of tobacco products. Cigarettes packed in black plastic film were hidden in the cargo of pellets in one of the low-sided cars. Despite this "disguise", tobacco products were found owing to the vigilant service of the border guards, who noticed a slight shift in the bulk cargo. The packages contained 4,300 packs of cigarettes without excise stamps.

Another batch of tobacco products was found by border guards on January 2 at the Chop (Druzhba) BCP. That time, the dealers placed cigarettes in the structural voids above the wheelsets of four grain hoppers as part of a freight train on the Chop-Zakhon route. A total of 440 packs of smuggled tobacco were taken from the hiding places.

Measures are currently being taken to identify those involved in illegal activities.
