BORDER GUARDS EXPOSE MULTIMILLION-DOLLAR SCHEME OF DRUG SMUGGLING AND FALSIFICATION

The involved persons arranged deliveries of medicines of dubious origin, from transportation across the border to arrival in retail pharmacies.

A large-scale transnational channel for smuggling drugs with signs of counterfeiting across the state border of Ukraine was identified as a part of criminal proceedings initiated by the Department of Operational Activities of the State Border Guard Service.

The involved persons arranged deliveries of medicines of dubious origin, from transportation across the border to arrival in retail pharmacies.

Activities under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine were conducted by joint groups of employees of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine and employees of the Department for Combating Cybercrime of Kyiv Region. Specialists of the State Medical Service of Ukraine and with the forceful support of the border guard special unit DOZOR were also involved in them.

A MAN car was detained at the Bachivsk BCP on the border with Russia. Drugs with signs of counterfeiting, medicine boxes and instructions for use were found in it.

At the same time, searches were conducted in Kyiv of persons whose role was to obtain smuggled supplies and further distribute the products to a network of pharmacies for sale. There were also searches of pharmacies involved in the retail sale of drugs with signs of counterfeiting.

In total, more than 10,000 units of medicines over 1,000 items were seized, the cost of which can be estimated at millions of hryvnias. Everything is aimed at conducting relevant expert research.

Further investigative actions are underway.
