The day before, the operational officers of the border guard detachment obtained information about the possible illegal activities in this direction. A foreign car was stopped for inspection on the Seliatyn-Shepit highway, a few hundred meters from the border.

As it turned out, the driver, a 30-year-old citizen of Ukraine, was transporting almost 38 boxes of excise-free cigarettes worth about 750,000 hryvnias.

The SUV and smuggled cigarettes were handed over to the SFS. Operational and investigative actions are underway.

It should be noted that in 2020, the border guards of the Chernivtsi border guard detachment stopped more than 180 attempts to smuggle tobacco products totalling more than 800,000 packs. At the same time, joint interdepartmental groups carried out a number of searches within the city of Chernivtsi city and oblast, as a result of which more than 260,000 packs of tobacco products were revealed.

A significant part of the offenses was detected and stopped outside the checkpoints and on the basis of preliminary information from the operational and investigative units of agency.

The highest activity of illegal elements is observed in the sectors of the Krasnoilsk, Seliatyn and Sokyriany border guard divisions, which are reinforced by the State Border Service with additional mobile and combined groups with the necessary equipment, weapons, service dogs. In addition, the Chernivtsi border guard detachment participated in joint special border operations and carried out the necessary operational and preventive measures.
