In order to improve measures to counter illegal activities at the state border, the State Border Guard Service continues to monitor the state border from the air in cooperation with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In December and January, the border guard details of the Western Regional Directorate conducted eight patrolling missions on board the helicopters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In particular, the flights were carried along the border sectors of Lviv and Mostyska Border Guard Detachments.

On board the helicopters, border guards monitored the border and the border zone and, in case of need, were ready to report about possible illegal activities near the border line to the border guard details on land. Rapid response teams have been formed within the headquarters of the state border protection units which are capable of instantly processing the information received from colleagues from air and detain offenders.  

During the eight flights, the signs of preparation for violation of the state border were not found. However, during the monitoring of the controlled border areas, the sites for possible take-off and landing of small aircraft, which can be used by smugglers for smuggling goods across the Ukrainian-Polish border have been analyzed.
