An attempt to smuggle in drugs across the Ukrainian-Polish border was stopped by border guards of Volyn border guard detachment.

The inspectors received information about the possible transportation of drugs in a car from internal security officers of the border guard detachment. When the Toyota car arrived at the Ustylug border crossing point, it was sent for a thorough inspection with the involvement of a service dog.

During the inspection of the car, which was driven by a 57-year-old female resident of Zaporizhzhia, the inspection team discovered hiding places in the bottom of the vehicle. There were plastic bags with white substance carefully tamped in there. In total, border guards together with operatives, customs officers and representatives of the SSU detected 34 packages. Those packages contained 17 kilograms of a narcotic substance, previously determined as mephedrone.

The case was reported to the National Police. In accordance with the established procedure, law enforcement officers who came to the scene confiscated the vehicle and sent the substance for further examination.

There is an investigation into the case.
