On January 23, the Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Serhii Deineko held a working meeting with Slavomir Pihor, Head of the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM).

The key issues of the meeting were to harmonise the existing Joint Control Protocols at the six border crossing points at the Ukrainian-Moldovan border with the new Agreement, as well as to prepare new draft protocols for joint control at the “Platonove – Goianul Nou” and “Kuchurhan – Novosavytske” border crossing points.

In addition, the issue of harmonization of the implementation mechanism of Article 9 of the Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Moldova on the organization of joint control at the border crossing points through the Ukrainian-Moldovan state border was discussed. The participants of the meeting highlighted the need of conducting internal procedures to prepare the package of necessary documents for signing.

At the end of the meeting, Serhii Deineko expressed gratitude to Slavomir Pihor for EUBAM's contribution to the establishment of cooperation between the border agencies of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, and expressed his hope for further assistance from EUBAM European experts, as new threats at the state border are constantly appearing and to counteract those threats is a task of border guards as well as other law-enforcement agencies of both countries.
