At the end of March this year, a Syrian citizen tried to bribe a border guard of the Kharkiv border guard detachment to ensure unimpeded entry into Ukraine for three of his fellow citizens.

Thus, on March 24, 2021, a foreigner met with the chief of the border inspectors’ section of the Kharkiv border guard division in the park named after T.G. Shevchenko in Kharkiv City. He appealed to the serviceman with a proposal to assist in the unimpeded crossing of the state border of Ukraine by citizens of Middle Eastern countries arriving at Kharkiv Airport. For the admission of one such foreigner to the territory of Ukraine, he offered a monetary reward of 500 to 1,000 US dollars.

The border guard informed the competent law enforcement agencies about the illegal proposal.

Then on April 4, 2021, a Syrian citizen provided $ 1,500 to a border guard in the office of Kharkiv International Airport for facilitating the unimpeded crossing of the state border of Ukraine by three citizens of the Syrian Arab Republic who arrived at Kharkiv Airport.

The foreigner was detained immediately after providing an illegal benefit.

The Kominternivsky District Court of Kharkiv found a Syrian citizen guilty of committing a criminal offense under Part 1 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The court also took into account the fact that the foreigner fully admitted his guilt, sincerely repented of what he had done and facilitated the disclosure of the criminal offense.

According to the court decision, the Syrian was sentenced to a fine of one thousand five hundred tax-free minimum incomes, amounting to 25,500 hryvnias. In addition, an illegal benefit of $ 1,500 was confiscated to state revenue.
