A Bukovinian who tried to smuggle cigarettes across the border into Romania will pay a fine of almost 65,000 hrn.

The Putylskyi District Court of Chernivtsi Region found a Ukrainian man detained by border guards of the Chernivtsi border guard detachment late last year guilty of a criminal offense.

The court constituted that on December 8, 2020, a native of the Ploska village, Putylskyi district, while at the market in Chernivtsi, illegally purchased from a person not identified by the investigation in order to sell 12 boxes of cigarettes without excise stamps of Ukraine - 3,500 packs of "Marble" at a price of 2,100 euros and 2,500 packs of "Marlboro" worth 1700 euros.

Later, the man, continuing his criminal activities aimed at selling tobacco products, transported the purchased cigarettes in a Mitsubishi car in the direction of the Selyatyn village, Putylskyi district, Chernivtsi region.

On December 8, 2020 at 11:30 pm on the border section of the Seliatyn Border Guard Division at a distance of 500 meters from the Ukrainian-Romanian state border line, on the highway connecting the Seliatin village – Ruska village, he was found by a border patrol.

In the cabin and in the luggage compartment of the vehicle, law enforcement officers found and confiscated indicated tobacco products.

According to the study protocol, the samples provided for the study did not meet the requirements of SSTU.

At the court session, the accused admitted his guilt in the committed criminal offense in full.

As a result, the court fined him three thousand eight hundred non-taxable minimum incomes (UAH 64,600) with the destruction of illegally manufactured cigarettes.
