In Transcarpathia, the District Court of Berehove fined a violator detained by border guards of Luzhanka BG division of Mukachevo border guard detachment.

This weekend the violator and his accomplice have been detained near the state border by Ukrainian and Hungarian border guards. During joint actions, law enforcement officers of two countries have stopped the attempt to smuggle 5,000 packs of cigarettes. However, a 32-year-old Ukrainian man detained by Ukrainian border guards will pay only a fine - 3,400 hryvnias for attempting to cross the state border illegally. His accomplice - also a Ukrainian - faces criminal liability on the other side of the border.

It should be noted that in Hungary smuggling and abuse of excise duty causing damage to the state budget in the amount of more than 329 euros (unpaid mandatory payments) are referred to as "financial fraud". Financial fraud as a crime is punished by imprisonment. The penalty depends on the amount of damage. If the amount of property damage is considered to be insignificant and is up to 1,600 euros, the penalty will include imprisonment for up to 2 years. Damages from 1,601 to 16,000 euros include imprisonment for up to 3 years, from 16,001 to 160,000 euros are up to 5 years; from 160,001 to 1,600,000 euros are up to 8 years; more than 1,600,000 euros are up to 10 years.

It should be noted that today the attempt to smuggle tobacco products is the most common offense on the state border of Ukraine. After all, in our country the legislation is quite loyal to cigarette smugglers. They are usually threatened with administrative liability for illegal border crossing and confiscation of goods.
