The unusual border violation occurred on the Danube River.

A 63-year-old US citizen moored his kayak to the Ukrainian shore, not far from the town of Reni. The foreigner claimed he had made a mistake and accidentally perceived the Ukrainian bank as part of the EU, where there are no borders between countries. He explained that he had set out on the water journey from Germany, passing through Austria, Slovakia, Croatia, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Romania. His plan was to reach the Sfântu Gheorghe branch all the way to the Black Sea coast near the village of Sfântu Gheorghe.

The American's journey lasted for a total of 57 days, during which he periodically docked at the shores of different countries to replenish his supplies.

Border guards filed an administrative offense protocol against the foreigner. After the case is reviewed by the court, he will be handed over to the Romanian side through the readmission process.

It's worth noting that a similar border violation on the Danube was documented by border guards over a month ago when a French citizen, after spending 51 days on the water, confused the banks.
