Recently the representatives of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine have visited the Republic of Lithuania whereas in the framework of the TWINNING Project they took part in the official opening of one of the Project Components.

Recently the representatives of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine have visited the Republic of Lithuania whereas in the framework of the TWINNING Project they took part in the official opening of one of the Project Components.  

Throughout this project realization time the Ukrainian delegation was presented with the technological schemes of the border crossing operations at the Border Crossing Points, as well as with the new IT-systems of the border check. The Ukrainian Border Guards visited the BCP for road vehicle traffic “Medininkai” and the BCP for railway traffic “Kena” on the Lithuanian-Belarussian border and the airport “Vilnius”.

In addition to it, the Ukrainian delegation got familiarized with SIRENE operations – unit being responsible for the data entry on persons to database SIS II.  The newest databases of the authentic and false travel documents along with the samples and its descriptions were presented to the Ukrainian Border Guards.

As part of the envisaged study visit agenda the Ukrainian Delegation made a visit to the Border Guard School of Lithuania during which the material-and-technical base of the institution, the educational and training methods of future border guards was shown.  

In general, during the study visit to Lithuania the Ukrainian border guards had an opportunity to get familiarized with the system of the state border surveillance by the Member State of the European Union, to conduct the comparative analysis of the border guard duty-service operations of the two countries, to learn more on the newest technological schemes of the border control, common European IT-schemes, up-to-date databases and to elaborate further recommendations for the realization of the TWINNING Project in Ukraine.

The Head of the International Operations Division – Co-Project Leader of the Twinning Project Vygintas Kaziukonis stated that the project gave a possibility, by means of the European partners’ support, to work on the urgent needs of the SBGSU, thus, it should be explored in full, especially for the changes in the present legislation of Ukraine with reference to the border queries. In particular, it’s a good opportunity for strengthening positions in the Integrated Border Management.

The Resident Twinning Advisor of the TWINNING Project Daniel Farrell thanked the Border Guard Service of Lithuania for providing highly qualified experts to take part in the project and for being so active and supportive from the side of the SBGS of Lithuania towards Ukraine.

In his turn, the Deputy Commander of the State Border Guard Service of Lithuania Antanas Montvydas gave a high appraisal to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine of having one of the main roles in the system of National Security of the European territory.
