On May 29th in the framework of the Twinning Project further activities were commenced in the Administration of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. The key event was the meeting of the Project Leader Thomas Osterroth and the First Deputy Head of the State Border Guard Service Vasyl Servatiuk.
In the course of the meeting there was a point discussed to create the Multiagency Consultative Working Group in the sphere of IBM (Integrated Border Management). It should be pointed out that the need (the presence) of the permanent decision-making body on coordination of the interagency cooperation in the sphere of IBM is considered to be as one of the best practices in the European Union, based on general principles of the EU Integrated Border Management and on recommendations of the EU Council with regards to the Schengen program concerning external borders control.
As noted by Vasyl Servatiuk, the State Border Guard Service highly appreciates the EU experience in the field of IBM and is ready to implement the EU best practices taking into account the national particularities and actual threats of the national security.
“European experts do not intend to complicate the existing processes in Ukraine. We would like to find out the optimal variant for improving the interagency cooperation in the field of Integrated Border Management and to offer it to Ukraine” – as it was mentioned by the Twinning Project Leader Thomas Osterroth.
In the meantime, during the current week the European experts are conducting the consultative meetings with the representatives of other relevant actors of IBM with regards to the mentioned point.
