The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine jointly with the Department of Strategic Investigations of the National Police of Ukraine under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv Prosecutor's Office are taking measures to block the operation of a large-scale scheme to traffic in illicit cigarettes intended for sale in Duty Free stores.

The irregular deal provided for their import to Ukraine from the UAE and other countries and further illegal trafficking in the European Union.

Currently, law enforcement officers are conducting coordinated joint activities in the framework of criminal proceedings and to implement court rulings for inspection. 12 containers with cargo of cigarettes which are on terminals of “Odessa ICC” are being inspected.

At the same time, cigarettes do not have markings for use in duty-free trade.

Containers were accumulated in the port during February-April.

It should be noted that in February, border guards also informed the Odessa customs officials about the need to inspect containers.

The possibility of illegal transactions is confirmed by the fact that so far the cargo has not been submitted for proper registration.
