A meeting between the First Deputy Head of State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Lieutenant-General Vasyl Servatiuk and a Senior Advisor of the NATO Emerging Security Challenges Division Michael F. Gaul took place in the Administration of State Border Guard Service of Ukraine on September 14th, 2016.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss:
- the establishing of partner relationship between the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and NATO, particularly within the framework of realisation of the Annual National Program of Cooperation "UKRAINE - NATO" and the NATO’s trust funds;
- the comprehensive maintaining of the initiative of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine on the implementation of a joint project on combating corruption;
- the promoting of practical suggestions on ensuring border security under the conditions of the new emerging challenges and threats, as well as the development of active cooperation in the future.
The First Deputy Head of the Service emphasized that today the development of partnership relations with NATO is a strategically important priority for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and expressed readiness for further cooperation with NATO in all possible directions.
In its turn, the Senior Advisor to NATO said, that the Alliance member-states are convinced that reforming of the security and defence sector of Ukraine and its commitment to the rule of law is paramount to the Euro-Atlantic security. In this regard, members of the Alliance are ready to assist in promoting the comprehensive reformation of the national security sphere of Ukraine, including a deep transformation in the context of the activity of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, if the results of the changes will be evident and effective on practice.
The meeting took place in a constructive and friendly atmosphere and demonstrated the willingness of the Parties to launch the new joint initiatives and cooperation in the future.
