Ukrainian-Hungarian consultations took place yesterday by the means of video conferencing.

Ukrainian-Hungarian consultations took place yesterday by the means of video conferencing.

Border guards of both countries discussed the issues of construction of new border crossing points in the Transcarpathian region, opening of the Velyka Palad - Nadhodosh BCP and the existing issues of legal regulation and organization of control at joint BCPs on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border.

Border control at joint BCPs on the border with Hungary, Slovakia and Romania is a strategically important and priority task for Ukraine. The implementation of joint inspections will increase the capacity of existing BCPs, reduce by 15-20% the time of border inspections and the cost of construction of BCPs on both sides of the border, will help eliminate corruption among staff.

It should be noted that the positive experience of organizing joint control on the Ukrainian-Polish border has been in force for over 10 years, joint control is carried out at 4 joint BCPs located in Poland.

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine seeks to introduce a similar practice on the border with Hungary. Relevant draft international agreements have already been worked out with Hungarian colleagues and several rounds of negotiations have been held.

However, the existence of contradictions between the legislation of the European Union, the Schengen Borders Code and the national legislation of Ukraine does not allow to reach the final completion of the process of preparation of international agreements for signing.

Following the consultations, the Parties agreed to intensify the preparation process by finding compromise solutions that would allow concluding international agreements and establishing joint control on the border with Hungary.

In addition, the Hungarian Party initiated the establishment of a Ukrainian-Hungarian Joint Border Commission for further practical activities.
