On the transit section of the Odesa-Reni motorway, border guards detained a 25-year-old resident of Odesa region who was trying to smuggle three men to Moldova.

The operation was conducted in the framework of criminal proceedings under the procedural supervision of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Specialised Prosecutor's Office in the field of defence of the Southern Region.

In order to implement his illegal intentions, the offender decided to reach an agreement with the border guard in advance, offering her a USD 5,000 reward. The border guard reported the bribery attempt to law enforcement officers. The latter documented the provision of USD 2,500 by the offender, who was to provide the remaining amount after the successful transfer.

In the course of controlling the crime, law enforcement officers also detained the offender red-handed during an attempt to illegally transfer people abroad. He was to receive up to USD 8000 from each of his ‘clients’.

The dealer was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the CPC of Ukraine and served a notice of suspicion of committing the crimes.

The operation was conducted by a joint inter-agency group consisting of operatives of the Internal Security Department of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Border guard Detachment of the Main Directorate of the SBU ‘Pivden’, the SSU Office in Odesa region and the National Police.
