Specialized training course for emergency groups was held at the Maritime Guard Training Centre in February.

16 crewmembers from Izmail, Odesa, and Mariupol Detachments of Maritime Guard studied the innovations, shared practical experience, and solidified knowledge during practical exercises.

An emergency group is a special unit created on board of a ship or a boat of the Maritime Guard to fight for survivability of the vessel. This is a team of professionals who, in case of an emergency, on the command of the ship or boat commander, are sent to eliminate the accident in areas where there is no staff, or to help those who are already working to eliminate the accident on a regular basis.

That is why it is extremely important to work out coordination of all team members, their interchangeability and mutual understanding. In addition to the ability to quickly and accurately locate an emergency situation, extinguish a fire, stop the flow of seawater due to damage to the housing and the like, members of the emergency group must be able to save their own life.

Thus, in addition to theoretical training, participants of the specialized training course for the emergency groups also attended a three-week block of practical classes on the base of the Training Centre itself and on the training vessel “Novyi Donbas”.

The tasks of the workshops were as realistic as possible - from jumping into water in a life jacket or wetsuit to turning over an overturned life raft and placing safely in it, and also escaping from the smoky room, peculiarities of liquidation activities in conditions of fire in the compartment.

On return to their units, all the specialists who have completed such a course will be able to share their experience with their crewmates.
