“World Wide Fund for Nature Ukraine” expressed its gratitude to the border guards of the Vylkove Division, Izmail Detachment for persistent and effective work to ensure compliance with environmental legislation in the field of natural resources use.

Since 2016, “World Wide Fund for Nature Ukraine” (WWF-Ukraine) has been actively working within the framework of the EU project "Life to the Danube Sturgeon". One of the important parts of the Fund's work is the conservation of free-living sturgeon population that are included in the Red Data Book of Ukraine.

So, in 2017, WWF-Ukraine handed over a powerful digital camera to the State Border Guard Service to record cases of illegal sturgeon fishing. Fund representatives organized joint seminars, meetings and internships.

WWF-Ukraine is grateful to the border guards for their responsible and successful work to protect sturgeon in the Danube Delta. In particular, the Fund noted the resonant detention of poachers who illegally fished large sized caviar at the mouth of Ochakivske at the site of “Vylkove” Division. Then, on March 20, defending the catch with dozens of pounds of black caviar, the offender rushed with a knife at the border guard. Thanks to the skilful actions of the serviceman, the assailant was disarmed and handcuffed, and barely alive beluga was released into the Danube.
